Play up your curves

The latest exhibition at the Met, Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between, celebrates the legendary designer’s illustrious 50-year career. Perhaps one of Kawakubo’s most memorable collections, however, was “Lumps and Bumps” (Spring 1997), which featured sculptural silhouettes that capitalized on curves—and not like a Kardashian so often does today. For those who are not willing to sell to a kidney to get a coveted piece of Comme (like Fashion Unfiltered’s editor-in-chief) or too busy texting to wear a conceptual CDG jumpsuit without arm holes (as Helen Lasichanh did on Monday night), there is this free-form (and affordable!) nail art by polish pro and Sally Hansen global color ambassador Madeline Poole. “I really love organic shape nail looks,” says the manicurist. “Anything from animal prints to simple curves—they are both easy to achieve and expressive.” Here, how to DIY the runway-worthy look in just six simple steps. Just be sure to wear an ensemble that allows you to show off your handiwork.

Apply Sally Hansen Moisture Rehab ($10) to the nails and allow it to dry for about five minutes before you begin painting. Then, apply two coats of Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Birthday Suit ($7.50).

Use a striping brush to mark off free-form shapes along nails with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Crème de la Crème ($7.50).
