If I were a betting woman—and I could put money on the next big beauty contract instead of horses, sports, or cards—I would literally be a billionaire right now. That statement comes off cocky, but as the kids say, sorry not sorry. With the release of The Neon Demon last summer, I spoke to Erin Ayanian Monroe (the Fanning sisters’ longtime makeup artist), and noted that one of these precocious, fair-skinned beauties was bound to score big dollars from a cosmetic conglomerate in the near future. And [cue hair flip], I was right.
Today, L’Oréal Paris announced in WWD that 19-year-old Elle Fanning nabbed the title of international spokesperson, joining women like Susan Sarandon, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Eva Longoria, and Julianne Moore. With her nearly perfect porcelain skin and willingness to wear everything from high-octane glitter to nothing at all, she’s the ultimate face for experimental millennials to look up to. (Fanning also hasn’t been arrested or spent time in rehab, which is more than most child actors can say for themselves.)
At this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the burgeoning star is screening not one, but two movies: Beguiled (directed by Sofia Coppola) and How to Talk to Girls at Parties (by John Cameron Mitchell). Last year, Fanning skipped her senior prom to walk the red carpet alongside her tux-clad bestie in the south of France instead. This year, she’ll be attending the event on the arm of the beauty giant. And after shooting her first ad for Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara (dropping today) in a French castle, it appears L’Oréal Paris found its next American princess—one that will undoubtedly inspire the masses to make a purchase.
