The resounding shrieks produced by Janelle Monáe’s glam squad upon seeing her waltz across the small screen in a custom Armani gown and an updo studded with pearls is exactly how we felt about the multiple hair adornments spotted on leading ladies at the Golden Globes. From Jessica Biel’s nape-grazing twist dripping with delicate gold chains (perhaps a piece from hairstylist Adir Abergel’s forthcoming collab with Lelet NYC?) to Riley Keough’s classic black satin bow, the red carpet was rife with accessory inspiration. Chrissy Teigen and Sienna Miller’s sleek ponies were taken to new heights with a little something special wrapped around each of their tails (Teigen opted for a trio of pins from Jen Atkin's line with Chloe + Isabel, while Miller reached for simple grosgrain ribbon). Sarah Jessica Parker added some punkish flair with a mohawk-like barrette. Gregory Russell, Lily Collins’ go-to guy, used hair to make some magic and multiple braids. But Monáe undoubtedly took home tonight’s crown with a crystallized clip and pearls sprinkled across her strands like stars in the night sky. With the help of “Hair MacGyver” Nikki Nelms, Monáe has continually proven that you don’t need an A-lister’s budget to pull off spotlight-worthy strands. Artfully placed safety pins, gold wire, or googly eyes can look just as spectacular as a pre-made, Hollywood creation.

Here, all the best hair accessories from the Golden Globes.
