So much time is spent carefully crafting the perfect feline flick or smoky eye, but this group of leading ladies—Janelle Monáe, Margot Robbie, Shay Mitchell, and Lily Collins—proves that your lower lashes deserve some love, too. At Marie Claire’s Image Makers Awards in West Hollywood last night, Robbie presented her longtime makeup artist, Pati Dubroff, with an award while sporting a strip of eye-brightening navy smudged along her bottom lash line. To get the look, Dubroff defined Robbie's eyes with black, then layered an electric blue pencil over top for a "pop of subtle color." Always a believer in the more-is-more aesthetic, Monáe arrived on MC’s red carpet wearing a band of vivid cobalt liner in the same strategic spot, along with a few silver bobby pins intentionally poking out of her updo for texture and shine. A few evenings prior at Sean Penn’s gala benefitting Haiti, Collins made a case for a graphic cat-eye that caps off both upper and lower lashes. Her go-to pro, Fiona Stiles, used an indigo liquid (like Lancôme’s Grandiôse Liner in Matte Saphir) to create the razor-sharp detail. And today, face painter Patrick Ta paired Mitchell's cherry red lip with an equally vivid aquamarine liner. Next time you turn your attention to your eyes, consider, as Drake so poignantly stated, starting from the bottom instead of going straight for the lids.
