How to Get Prada-Worthy Pigtails

Two times the fun

High-fashion pigtails aren’t necessarily a new idea—we’ve seen double plaits grace the runway at shows like Miu Miu, Creatures of the Wind, Chanel, Giles, Marni, and more—but leave it to Miuccia Prada to make the schoolgirl plaits feel decidedly sassy and sophisticated. Woven all the way down to the ends of models’ hair, the braids by Guido Palau were more severe than sweet. Same goes for the power red lip patted onto pouts by maquillage master Pat McGrath. “When you wear a red lip, it shows that you really know yourself,” noted the makeup pro at Prada’s Fall 2016 show.

Pigtails are also popping up on the red carpet just as frequently as they do on the catwalk. At the MTV Movie & TV Awards, Paris Jackson switched things up with breast-grazing plaits that were a “unique change from her usual short platinum hair,” said makeup artist Jo Baker, while Yara Shahidi paired her pigtails with “Gucci down to the socks.” And if we learned anything from Beyoncé’s “Formation” video, it’s that two braids are better than one when it comes to twirling on them haters.
