“He wanted to be able to cut all the girls hair—he didn’t want an updo,” said lead hairstylist Orlando Pita of Tom Ford’s lofty request. “This was my solution.” A model makeover, especially on the likes of Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, is pretty much guaranteed to garner as much publicity as Kim Kardashian-West arriving in the front row with silvery platinum strands (yet again). But lopping off supers’ lengths backstage at the start of fashion month—even if it is the fucking fabulous Ford—isn’t exactly feasible, so Pita did the next best thing: He swirled strands into a slick-yet-sexily-tousled pixie using pins and his Climate Change Humidity Blocking Hairspray. For girls with already cropped cuts (like Lineisy Montero), he added a “form” of hair.
To complete the look, Pat McGrath topped a slash of inky liner with ebony glitter, while manicurist Mei Kawajiri created sparkly talons with smoky tips to complement the crystal hobo bags, sequins, and silver mesh sprinkled throughout the va-va-voom collection. As for those faux chops, will anyone decide to go under the scissors and make their new look permanent? Only time will tell. But Jenner, according to Pita, is contemplating it: “She was saying, ‘Oh my god, I never thought I would like my hair short because I feel like I’d look like my mother—but I don’t!’” To that, the mane master replied, “Well, that’s the point, we want to inspire you.”
