In her review of J.W.Anderson’s Spring 2017 collection, FU’s EIC Katharine Zarrella wrote that the “play between hard and soft, refined and rustic, made this a particularly dynamic Anderson outing.” Well, the just-released images from the new campaign have certainly followed suit.
Photographed by frequent Anderson collaborator Jamie Hawkesworth, and styled by Benjamin Bruno, the images star Chloë Sevigny, aka "the coolest girl in the world," in crisp black-and-white portraits in double-pages spreads. The casting of Sevigny is an unexpected choice for Anderson. The designer usually taps models instead of celebrities, and one wouldn't necessarily associate Sevigny with the brand. That being said, she is a fashion It girl, and it's an interesting new approach for Anderson.
But that’s not all—also in the series are more artistic images of Anderson’s sweaters blowing in the wind. These images are shot in full color, and Hawkesworth makes interesting use of the layout by offsetting the images across the pages.
