Pitti Immagine Uomo 91 has announced this morning the roster of special guests who will showcase their design chops at the biannual trade show in Florence in January. The lineup includes Paul Smith, Tim Coppens, Golden Goose Deluxe Brand, and Cottweiler for Reebok.
“The program of special events for the next Pitti Uomo represents for us a further step in the process of moving beyond the traditional duality between trade fair and fashion week,” said Pitti’s Lapo Cianchi, adding that the aforementioned talents were chosen for honing in on the intersection between fashion, sportswear, and—here’s that word again—athleisure, which he notes is “a strong theme in fashion and contemporary lifestyle.”
As the Pitti Immagine Special Guest, Smith, who hosted a celebration of punk during LC:M this summer, will stage a fashion installation to launch his contemporary line, PS by Paul Smith. Coppens, the Menswear Guest Designer, will debut his Fall 2017 menswear collection, which is pretty major considering the LVMH Prize finalist and CFDA Swarovski Award winner has always shown in New York. Italian streetwear label Golden Goose Deluxe Brand, which was chosen in the Special Project category, will host an installation celebrating 10 years of its high-end sneakers. Lastly, London-based menswear label Cottweiler (another past LVMH semifinalist) will premiere its collaboration with Reebok as the Designer Project.
Here’s hoping January’s fair rivals last season’s, which saw designers like Gosha Rubchinskiy, Fausto Puglisi, and Raf Simons—who recently announced that he’ll show is eponymous label in New York this season—showcase forward-thinking, unbridled collections. Watch this space, as more news is yet to be announced.
Pitti Imagine Uomo 91 will take place in Firenze from January 10 to 13.
