Earlier this week, news spread like wildfire that Selena Gomez had allegedly inked a deal with Coach. Though it was widely reported as fact, the company had not issued a statement or commented—until now. It’s official! Coach has indeed tapped Selena Gomez to front its brand.
“The woman I design for is authentic, honest and possesses a romantic charm mixed with a cool, confident attitude,” said Stuart Vevers, Coach’s creative director. “Selena embodies all of these qualities perfectly—but the fact that she has always loved Coach, and believed so strongly in our philanthropic mission, made her a true Coach Girl.”
Gomez will appear in the brand’s Fall 2017 campaign (and will likely attend the show). As for the rumor that the singer will take on the role of designer—also true. The company said that the partnership will include a “special design project” with Vevers. The partnership also includes work with the Coach Foundation to support Step Up, which aims to empower teenage girls in need.
“I am so excited to work with Coach and love the clothes and accessories designed by Stuart Vevers,” Gomez said. “I am especially looking forward to getting to know the Coach team as well as becoming involved in the Foundation's support of Step Up. On top of all that, collaborating on a piece with Stuart for next fall makes this beyond special to me.”
Congrats to Gomez on the deal, but congrats to Coach as well—as we previously wrote, Gomez has a huge following, which will surely help solidify the massive brand identity overhaul Vevers has overseen for the past few seasons.
