It may be a few months away, but the fashion world is already gearing up for the forthcoming fashion week. News is beginning to trickle in regarding designers' plans for how they will participate in the festivities. Some, like Calvin Klein and Bottega Veneta, have announced that they will be merging the men's and women's collections on one runway. Others, such as Vera Wang and Tommy Hilfiger, will not be showing during New York fashion week. Wang is releasing a short film in Paris. Hilfiger, meanwhile, is heading cross-country.
WWD is reporting that he will be presenting a see-now, buy-now show for spring 2017 in L.A. the night before NYFW kicks off. This will be the second see-now, buy-now collection from Hilfiger, the first being for Fall 2016. Apparently that show went over like gangbusters for the brand, driving traffic to the website and even selling out some pieces overnight.
Clearly the brand is looking to repeat the magic. Last September saw the creation of “Tommy Pier,” a carnival space that was open the day after the show, while this time around, Hilfiger is inviting 3,000 industry people to the beach. Hilfiger will also be reprising his partnership with Gigi Hadid. The duo’s second capsule collection will have a “West coast vibe”.
Hilfiger’s show is set to take place February 8th, at 5pm PT, making sure that NYFW (which begins on the 9th) gets off to a running—jet-setting, for some—start.
