As we reported yesterday, the purported third season of Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story will focus on the murder of Gianni Versace. Naturally, people are excited and talking about this potential TV gold, so much so that the news has reached the Versace family, whom in turn have responded. They’re not thrilled.
“The series should only be seen as a work of fiction,” said the house in a statement to WWD, which also noted that the family objected to Lifetime’s House of Versace.
Look, it’s a deeply personal matter for the family. Understandably, they don’t want to have to deal with the continued publicizing of the death of a beloved family member. That being said (if Murphy’s first season, which focused on the trial of O.J. Simpson, is any indication) the story will likely focus on the investigation, trial, and media coverage, rather than a family’s grief.
