Bruno Mars and Donatella Versace have become besties this summer. It all began with the release of Mars’ latest album, 24K Magic, which features a song titled "Versace on The Floor." Versace has flaunted their friendship on Instagram, posting concert pics of Mars wearing the fashion house’s logo when he performed in Milan, and the singer even name-dropped the designer during that show.
Today, Versace took her admiration for Mars to the next level, rounding up supermodels like Candice Swanepoel, Natasha Poly, Binx Walton, and Kiki Willems to lip synch along with Mars’ "Versace" song in an Instagram video, seen above. Naturally, the squad donned an array of high-wattage Versace looks.
Mars is hardly the first to name-drop a high fashion house in his lyrics. Recall, for instance, Nicki Minaj’s shout-outs to Giuseppe Zanotti (“Monster Giuseppe heel,” she sings in "Monster"), A$AP Rocky’s sartorial dictionary in “Fashion Killa,” Lady Gaga’s mentions of Gucci, Fendi, and Prada (among others) in “Fashion,” Katy Perry’s Ferragamo reference in “Swish Swish” and Justin Timberlake’s nod to Alexander Wang, Tom Ford, and All Saints in “Suit and Tie.” But Versace is the queen of showing her admiration for such name checks, having cast Gaga in a campaign and now posting this video. It’s nice to see a designer who still gets this excited when a fellow artist pays tribute to her craft.
