2017 is shaping up to be quite the year in terms of entertainment, as it has just been confirmed that the long-awaited Grace Jones documentary will finally be released.
i-D reports that the film Grace Jones—My Musical Life has been in production for over a decade, with director Sophie Fiennes combining footage from live performances and personal moments. Considering Fiennes has spent so much time with her subject, the doc promises to be a considerably in-depth look at Jones as a seasoned entertainer with a full career to reflect on, rather than a pulpy take on a pop-culture icon.
That being said, those interested in such matters can easily look to Jones’s autobiography, I’ll Never Write My Memoirs, which features candid stories about her friendship with Andy Warhol, relationship with Jean-Paul Goude, and run-ins with various rock stars of the ‘70s and ‘80s.
Regardless, Jones is an enigmatic figure that the world will never quite figure out, no matter how much content produced by or about her we consume. Of course, that won’t stop anyone from trying. An exact release date has yet to be announced, but it seems likely that the doc will make the rounds during festival season in the fall.
