Is Karl Lagerfeld—Kaiser of style, arbiter of high taste, and the last bastion of an era where the designer’s word was law—embracing street style?
No, not really. But he is releasing a limited-edition capsule collection with illustrator Steven Wilson that features colorful pop-art renderings of Lagerfeld and his beloved cat, Choupette.
WWD reports that the graphics were made using three layers of color (cyan, magenta, and yellow), which create the designs and other colors as they are layered on top of each other.
“All too often my work is used anonymously under a brand name,” Wilson said of the collection. “So to have the opportunity to have my name and work used alongside Karl Lagerfeld is very special.” There’s something a little sad about the anonymous nature of his work, but perhaps with this endorsement, bigger recognition in the fashion industry is on the way.
