Without a doubt, the hair of Fall 2016 is the curly mop. Before New York Fashion Week began, I started making a “Model Moodboard” with all my favorite faces. About halfway into my fun little project, I realized that basically every catwalker I’m digging right now—including guys—has a shock of springy ringlets.

Indeed, natural waves have been making waves all over the runways recently. Why? I’m calling it the Mica effect. Dreamy Argentinian tomboy Mica Arganaraz was one of last year’s breakout stars, and she's perhaps best known for her shaggy fringe that has a distinct rock ’n’ roll vibe. You only need to flip through a current fashion magazine to confirm that basically every designer is in love with Mica (she’s in six Spring 2016 campaigns) and her hair, so it makes sense that they'd gravitate towards other models with Medusa-like tresses.

Alanna Arrington, a cutie from Iowa with a cut similar to Mica and Antonina Petkovic, opened the Altuzarra show, where the beauty look was all about enhancing the girls’ God-given texture. Other noteworthy newcomers rocking cropped, kinky curls include Dilone and Nirvana Naves. Hell, even Lady Gaga tried out the look at the Saint Laurent show in Los Angeles. Is it time the perm made a comeback?
