The Met Gala red carpet may generate a non-stop feed of fashion news, but it’s really only the beginning of the story. Following the actual event, glitzy parties abound, each after-hours fete generating its own level of intrigue (given that the guest lists are widened to accommodate those not invited to a night at the museum). Plus, without the worry of behaving around priceless pieces of art, and free from the watchful gaze of Anna Wintour, attendees are allowed to really let loose (and even eat something).
The two biggest soirees were held at the Boom Boom Room at The Standard (hosted by Katy Perry) and 1 Oak (where guests were greeted by Rihanna in a belted pajama shirt and marabou slippers). Some partygoers chose to remain in their extravagant wares from earlier in the evening, while others did a quick change—opting for a different-but-equally-attention-grabbing ensemble, or just something less restricting and more breathable. Jenna Lyons triumphantly put her jeans back on, Paris Jackson threw on some Converse sneakers, Nicolas Ghesquière rolled in with a brown leather jacket over a plaid shirt, Bella Hadid swapped her beaded Wang catsuit (a look she was literally sewn into) for a nipple-baring dress, and Kendall Jenner covered a bit more of her previously bare bum with a lace-up leather mini that left little thigh to the imagination.
It’s hard to say which bash was better—in addition to the DJ lineup, the Boom Boom Room had a live band. But 1 Oak had sandwiches (#winning). There were few people who could provide an informed opinion on the state of the entire evening: Karlie Kloss, Donald Glover, and Aymeline Valade managed to hit up all three major events last night—but do we really want to know? Sometimes it’s more fun to speculate on the fun that was had by all.
