What makes an article of clothing modern? Is modernity in dress about reference? How you wear it? For Adeam’s Hanako Maeda, modernity is about wearability. “I think it's important for clothes today to be appropriate for different occasions, and also to be easy to take care of,” said the designer. “Many women today are busy with work and personal life, and they don't have time to change between different occasions.”

With this in mind, the Japanese talent created a minimal five-piece capsule collection for Net-a-Porter, the entirety of which is machine washable. The pieces are simple—there’s a flare-sleeved off-white mini dress that's fitting for an office or, with a pair of slender heels, a night out; a pale blue blouse with asymmetrical ruffles; and Maeda’s favorite item—a carefree romper. “It's a fun summer piece that can be worn during the day with sandals, or at night with heels,” said Maeda. “It's perfect for a beach vacation as well, since it can be machine-washed easily. When I was designing the ADEAM x Net-a-Porter capsule collection, I was thinking of timeless, versatile pieces that will be staples for the ADEAM woman.” Launching today on netaporter.com, the washable wares are not just versatile—they're approachable, too, with items running between $465 and $795.
