Opulence Prime: Platinum, Pixie Dust, and Pearls On Display in Paris

Maison Margiela, Lanvin, and Fenty x Puma embellish lids, lips, and labrets

From dawn to dusk, the City of Light was brimming with backstage magic. This morning at Maison Margiela, Pat McGrath painted models’ pouts with a platinum pigment (the next highly coveted launch from the maquillage master’s namesake labs) for a mesmerizing, mirror-like finish. Elsewhere in the lineup, catwalkers were treated to glittery, futuristic wings in icy shades of blue, lilac, and coral; sparkle-dusted skin; as well as triangular slivers of silver at the inner corners of eyes. Perhaps the most avant-garde embellishment, however, came in the form of gleaming, intergalactic 3D lips.

For Bouchra Jarrar’s big runway debut, makeup artist Tom Pecheux sprinkled finely milled pewter glitter across lids at Lanvin, while Rihanna opted for pearls over heavy metals at Fenty x Puma. In addition to strands wrapped around her neck and dangling from her fan, a single, oversized pearl dangled from a delicate rose gold cuff beneath a handful of models’ lower lips. (We can’t think of a prettier way to fake a labret piercing.) With Marie Antoinette serving as RiRi’s muse, raised rosettes swirled atop talon-like tips seemed right. As did the rings clutched precariously between catwalkers’ teeth. Why eat cake when you can dine on diamonds?
