How a Perfumer Does Paris

Fragrance legend Francis Kurkdjian shares his favorite hangouts in the City of Light

From berets to baguettes (and yeah, ok, the Eiffel Tower) there are many reasons to love Paris, non? And this season, you can add one more exciting attraction to that list: The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. The annual spectacle of models in their skivvies is being filmed today in Paris, for the first time ever. In honor of the big event, we asked one of our favorite Parisians, Francis Kurkdjian, for an insider’s guide to the places to see and be seen in the French capital. Can’t make it abroad? Channel the experience through Kurkdijan’s newest scents, citrusy Petit Matin and warm, woody Grand Soir, which pay tribute to the beauty of his home city by day and night.

For an all-day brunch: “I love Café Marly for brunch. I can spend hours there, from late breakfast to late diner. It’s very central; I read newspapers and magazines.”

When you need some alone time: “During the weekends, I love reading in the garden of Palais Royal across from the Louvre. It is quiet during the day and perfect place to enjoy a book.”

For lively day-drinking: “I enjoy having outside drinks with friends at Café Rosa Bonheur in the Buttes Chaumont Garden.”

For a chic meal: “Dining with friends and loved ones in the evening is what makes Paris so special to me. Lately, my place of choice has been La Providence, a restaurant in the lower 10th arrondissement with great cuisine. I always meet friends there. It is so Parisian.”

To get your dance on: “For nightclubs, I love the decor of Silencio.”

For a breathtaking view: “The rooftop terrace of the restaurant Georges at Beaubourg Museum has the best view over the city. The view from the Place du Trocadero with the Eiffel Tower in the back is spectacular, especially at night, as well as the Pont Alexandre III, the beautiful deck arch bridge that spans the Seine.”
