Thanks to the frantic pace of the digital age, the average person has the attention span of a goldfish. (No, seriously. This is a fact supported by an actual study.) Seeing as the fashion sphere changes its mind even faster, we decided to provide you with a condensed report from backstage this season. As much as we’d like to pen novels in the name of lipstick and hairspray, we get it—you’re busy. Here, the beauty version of CliffsNotes (all facts, no fluff) that you can easily skim in eight seconds…because science says that’s all the time you have.
SHOW: Guo Pei Spring 2017 Couture
KEY PLAYERS: Makeup Artist Debbie Finnegan, Hairstylist Stephen Low
THE LOOK: Otherworldly, ecclesiastical beauties gilded with gold and glitter
INSPO: “There is a heavy religious influence from a church that Guo Pei had visited in Switzerland,” said Finnegan. “So we’re interpreting this gorgeous, serene, slightly ethereal mood and feeling on each of the girls.”
BEAUTY MVPs: MAC Cream Colour Base in Pearl and Luna, MAC Glitter in Reflects Pearl, and MAC Pigment in Silver Frost
TOP TIPS: To lend everything from lips to lids an “otherworldly” quality, add glitter or anything that provides dimension (like metallic shadows and pigments), said Finnegan. And if dark circles are your issue, consider skipping concealer and covering them with gold sparkles (like the backstage pro did brilliantly here) instead.
WORDS FROM THE WISE: “Everyone is totally individual, but rich and luxurious,” said Finnegan. “That’s probably quite apt given that each of Guo Pei’s creations are otherworldly, amazing, intricate, and there is so much time that goes on with them.”
TREND TALLY: Glittery facial embellishments were spotted at Dior, Chanel, and Viktor & Rolf.
