12 Models Who Proved This Was the Summer of the Nipple

Break the rules with a bare breast or two

Who better to defy the rules and celebrate the female form in all its uncensored glory than supermodels. Leave it to Anja Rubik and Magdalena Frackowiak to go full-frontal, or Suki Waterhouse and Vittoria Ceretti to find a clever loophole in Instagram’s nude policy—camouflaging their areolas with emojis and skinny slices of watermelon.

What’s more surprising than supers’ creativity on social media, however, is the fact that Instagram has yet to remove the images. The app currently prohibits female nipples (unless shown in a work of art, or an image that features breastfeeding or a mastectomy scar), fully nude buttocks, genitals, and sexual acts. The app has received some backlash in recent years for this policy, which many consider to be sexist, as it does allow male nipples to be shown.

Models appear to be freeing the nipple as more than just a way to get an even tan. “Have a problem?” captioned Frackowiak defiantly next to a photo of her bare breasts. “B* that have a problem can unfollow.” It’s a political move to post a nipple on an app that vehemently forbids it. And, for that, hats (and tops) off to you, girls!
