Donatella Versace’s Spring 2018 tribute to her late brother and iconic designer, Gianni Versace, was as touching as it was over-the-top fabulous. And from the high-octane Italian house, we’d expect nothing less than full-throttle fashion with a ’90s bent and the epic supermodels—like Carla Bruni, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, and Helena Christensen—who defined the era strutting alongside budding stars such as Cara Taylor and Kaia Gerber.
In the sneak peek of the Versace’s latest campaign (set to drop in full on December 18), old yet again mixed the new. That classic leopard pattern from Gianni’s 1992 “Animalier” collection was seen stitched into a sleeve sported by none other than Gisele Bündchen. Campbell swung a bag emblazoned with vibrant, vintage Vogue covers, which paid homage to the late designer’s Pop Art-inspired prints from 1991. And naturally, Kaia Gerber is the spitting image of her mother with voluminous, va-va-voom strands reminiscent of a 1987 ad series shot by Richard Avedon for the house that featured Crawford, Christy Turlington, Paulina Porizkova, and Estelle Lefebure Hallyday all rocking larger-than-life hair.
While Crawford’s Steven Meisel-lensed photo has yet to be revealed, here’s hoping for a throwback look on par with her Pepsi commercial days. After all, as Donatella told WWD of the women cast in this campaign, “icons have no age.” And needless to say, great hair—especially when it’s a few inches closer to Gianni thanks to some strategic teasing and whole lot of mousse—is timeless.
