How to Be a Showgirl (or Boy) at Moschino and Saint Laurent

Nothing to wear? Roll around in glitter

According to the sage that is Britney Spears, “There are only two types of people in the world, the ones that entertain, and the ones that observe.” As she outlined in “Circus,”  Ms. Spears is not only a ringleader, but unquestionably a “put-on-a-show kinda girl.” The same can be said of Jeremy Scott and his cast of colorful Moschino characters for Resort.

From clowns to plush leopard tamers, there was something for anyone craving the sartorial spotlight and the beauty looks followed suit. Always a master of three-dimensional maquillage, famed face painter Kabuki created crystallized wings and adhered teardrop-shaped petals along models’ lower lash lines. Hairstylist Oribe Canales went for it with leopard-print wigs, cotton candy-colored streaks, full-throttle crimps, micro braids, and classic French twists that could withstand a trip on the trapeze thanks to Oribe Rock Hard Gel and Superfine Hair Spray.

Should you not have the budget to stock your wardrobe with a dove-adorned leotard or a bedazzled unitard, consider stripping down to your birthday suit, covering yourself in glue, and rolling around in some silver sparkles à la the closing romp at Saint Laurent’s Spring 2019 Menswear show. Spears helped put body glitter (and belly-baring tube tops) on the map in the early 2000s and this recent round of runway shows is bound to bring it back in 2018, guaranteeing all eyes are on you in the center of the ring just like a circus.
