From the Spring Studios show space to the considered fabrics (like fire engine red coated canvas), to the vivid photo prints, Adam Selman’s Fall 2018 offering felt more substantial than ever before. That’s a good sign for a designer who’s growing and evolving right alongside his young (and star-studded, I might add—Rihanna, Elizabeth Moss, Billie Lord, and Dakota Fanning have all recently worn his duds) client base. However, Selman hasn’t abandoned his playful camp side—thank goodness—and his inspirations this season, ’80s photographer Cheyco Leidmann (who did the above-motioned photo prints) and his muse and collaborator, Ypsitylla von Nazareth, lent themselves to plenty of retro sartorial revelry. Spandex, zebra prints, colored tights, heart-shaped hardware, crystal boleros, puff-sleeved minis, and multi-hued faux fur were all incorporated with a deft hand. Oh, and Le Specs renewed its blockbuster sunglasses collab with Selman—a good move on the company’s part, considering how quickly those babies sell out. Not to mention, they’re slick as hell—just like Selman’s latest lineup.
