This season, Barbara Tfank was inspired by Seville, a 2,200-year-old city in Spain (from where she has also sourced her fabrics).

“It’s just amazing,” she said of the locale. “All the tile work, and the flowers, and the lace, and the beautiful [Francisco de] Zurbaràn paintings.”

The collection was presented in the Leila Heller Gallery, which is currently showcasing the work of Francesca Pasquali. “I thought it was apropos, and it’s kind of a nice backdrop,” said Tfank. “It’s nice to mix fashion with something else, because there’s so much fashion, fashion, fashion.”

Indeed, it was a much more stimulating presentation space than a runway or empty room.

The standout dress from this collection actually made its debut over a month ago when Michelle Obama wore it in July for her remarks at the Kids’ State Dinner. The FLOTUS is actually a repeat customer, having appeared in a few of Tfank’s dresses over the years.

“It’s always about fabrics for me, and great shapes, and glamour,” Tfank says of her work. The overall mix of structured fabrics with lace, or tulle and organza, gives customers a range of options for upscale social gatherings. “I really appreciate timeless clothes, and things that really last.”
