Sebastien Meunier dreamed of Robert Mapplethorpe at the Chelsea Hotel for Ann Demeulemeester’s Spring 2018 collection.

The inspiration was interpreted with beautiful literalness. There were leather robe trenches, black floral decorations, and silk shorts paired with part gothic, part fetishitic leather boots. Chainlink tanks straight out of the photographer’s work and personal wardrobe were also on offer.

There looks for Patti, too—white button-downs and loose black slacks that closely mirrored the androgynous looks the artist wore as a young woman with Mapplethorpe, and still wears today. Smith is famously a close friend of Demeulemeester, and a longtime fan of the brand. (Obviously. Have you seen the Mapplethorpe-lensed cover of Horses?)

Long, floral-printed black-and-white robes, and pale red velvet offerings were highlights.
