Remember when Marc Jacobs showed up to Fashion East’s Fall 2016 show in London to support his former intern? Looks like Amie Robertson, the budding, Manchester-born womenswear designer (and former Jacobs apprentice) is experiencing another pinch-me moment—this time, within the buying realm—as she’s just been announced as the winner of Saks Fifth Avenue’s Emerging Designer Showcase.
This is the second year Saks has held the showcase, which was put in place in order to discover fresh talent. (Last year’s winners included sustainable newbie label Vetta and Estonian womenswear designer Roberta Einer). In order to qualify, designers must submit a digital lookbook by a certain date. From there, selected talent should demonstrate that they’re ready-to-wear focused and are able to fulfill orders with production and shipping capabilities in place, among other criteria.
On Friday, the day of the showcase, Robertson flew in from London to present her Fall 2017 collection—one that’s heavy on handmade crystal embellishments—to Saks’ buying team. Now, the Central Saint Martins grad will return for an official buying appointment during which the Saks team will select which pieces will be brought into stores.
