Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2017 Show Stars Its Top Clients

The Italian house harnesses the power of over 119 million Instagram followers

As much as the elitist fashion set wants to elevate clothes and accessories to an art form, a runway show really boils down to sales. More than ever before, commerce is central to what sashays down a catwalk, which is why today’s Dolce & Gabbana extravaganza was pure genius.

Real life royals (Maria-Olympia of Greece), mothers, daughters, sisters, couples, and babies showed off the design duo’s latest wares in lieu of a slew of standard models (though there were a few—including house favorites Bianca Balti and Vittoria Ceretti—mixed into the eclectic and sizable cast). Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce made the strategic move to include their clients from around the globe in the show alongside millenial influencers and celeb spawn like Kristina Bazan, Sarah Snyder, Harley Viera-Newton, Sofia Richie, Sailor Brinkley Cook, Rafferty Law, Ella Richards, Chloe and Halle Bailey (Beyoncé’s protégés), Luka Sabbat, and Thylane Blondeau (the 15-year-old French It girl many have dubbed the next Kate Moss).

For some, it was a family affair. Amanda and Jason Harvey opened the show carrying their kids in twinning cat prints. Lori Harvey and matriarch Marjorie Harvey made their way down the runway a few minutes later. Pyper America Smith’s cotton candy-pink hair made an appearance, as did Daisy Clementine, Starlie, and brother Lucky Blue, who walked hand-in-hand with girlfriend Stormi Bree (a former pageant queen turned music producer). Kendall and Neels Visser walked (another set of siblings who hit the genetic jackpot), as well as Charlotte and Alice Dellal.

While it was heartwarming to see “real” women and such a diverse group of races, ages, and walks of life come together for one fashionable cause (an inclusive idea also embraced by Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Chromat, Simone Rocha, and Gareth Pugh this season), let’s get down to business: If there’s anything that can guarantee a sold-out collection, it’s happy customers having a blast in party-worthy clothes before they even hit stores, as well as teen trendsetters with millions of loyal Instagram followers.
