“No,” “seriously, no,” and now, “no, stop asking” is basically what Chanel reps have been saying in regards to the long circulating rumor that Hedi Slimane will be heading up a men’s line for the storied French brand. Of course, they said it much more elegantly.
“The house of Chanel has no projects with Hedi Slimane,” the brand told WWD. “Chanel doesn’t work on the launch of a Chanel men’s wear collection.”
Lagerfeld has sent the occasional male model down the runway for years, and has been wearing Slimane-designed suits for a while, but the rumor didn’t really get off the ground until Slimane left his position at Saint Laurent. Perhaps fashion folk simply couldn’t fathom why Slimane would cause such a ruckus changing the house of Saint Laurent—and get his way—only to leave so quickly.
So just to recap: nothing has changed, nothing will be changing, and Chanel isn’t doing a men’s line, so just let it go already. (And yes, we’ll let it go too.)
