Fall 2016’s most covetable wares were equal parts ‘90s grit and upperclass ennui

The ‘90s are back—but not the ‘90s you think. When perusing the Fall 2016 collections, Fashion Unfiltered’s executive fashion editor-at-large, MELISSA VENTOSA MARTIN, and photographer JEROME CORPUZ couldn’t help but recall Whit Stillman’s Metropolitan, the 1990 film that detailed the sordid lives of Manhattan’s haute urban bourgeoisie. Mixed with a dash of the season’s understated grit and its Victorian-meets-Laura Ashley romance, what emerges is a thoroughly modern take on the poor little rich girl who dreams of escape. Here, HALEY PATRICK (NEXT) brings to life a cinematic tale of nostalgia and innocence lost in wares from Burberry, BalenciagaChloé, and more.
