Tommy Hilfiger crafted quite the finale for his show when he sent his models down the runway using the buddy system. The kicker was that, like a mother of toddlers dressing her kids for a Christmas card, he had them to do a little twirl on the catwalk in identical outfits. Adorbs.
Twinning has certainly been a fun little trend this season, which could be seen with some designers sending two models down the runway at once, or, in the case of Jenna Lyons and her partner Courtney Crangi, in the form of matchy-matchy front row looks.
But in a certain context, it makes for great discussion on modern dress practices in regards to gender. Not only has this season seen a rise in mixed gender runways (Bottega Veneta being the most recent), but the clothes are starting to meet in the middle as well. Certain ensembles—such as suits, which have different button placements for men and women—retain details that denote differences. But some trends, like the bomber jacket, have transcended gender lines, being adopted for both.
