The Creature Called Comme

Hannah Ferguson ventures into the woods wearing Comme des Garçons’ most enchanting creations

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo launched what would soon become the empire known as Comme des Garçons. Since the birth of her brand in 1969, each of Kawakubo’s collections has been more enchanting, transfixing, and perplexing than the last, forcing us to redefine our concepts of beauty, fashion, and femininity. Ahead of the Met’s Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between, opening May 4, we at Fashion Unfiltered delved into EIC Katharine K. Zarrella’s archive to explore all that CDG has to offer. Lensed by photographer MIGUEL REVERIEGO, model HANNAH FERGUSON (IMG) ventured deep into the woods swathed in CDG confections styled by YANA KAMPS. Transformed into a Comme des Garçons creature by FU’s beauty editor-at-large, VINCENT OQUENDO, Ferguson embarks on a journey of strengthening self discovery while bringing CDG wares of the past and present to life.
