Is Comme des Garçons Fashion’s Friendliest Brand?

In honor of CDG's latest collaboration with Supreme, we look at the Japanese house’s best partnerships

Streetwear nerds, rejoice! Today, the world got a glimpse of the new Comme des Garçons SHIRT collaboration with Supreme that is set for release this Thursday. The collection (which features pieces adorned with both brand’s logos and an eye print, as well as a three-way collab in the form of some extra-special Nike Air Force Ones, set to hit stores next month) is not the first partnership between the high-fashion label and the streetwear brand—the duo also had successful runs in 2012 and 2014.

But this is none too surprising for fashion fans. Comme des Garçons may have an ardent following on its own, but Rei Kawakubo (who, in case you forgot, is being honored with a dedicated exhibition at the Met come May) isn’t one to discount working with other designers and artists. In fact, the avant-garde Japanese house is one of the original collaborators, having teamed with seemingly paradoxical brands (think Nike, Barbie, Speedo, Disney, Converse, and so many more) long before Vetements or Louis Vuitton.

In honor of Comme des Garçons’ design compatibility (and Rei Kawakubo’s willingness to play well with others), we’ve rounded up 15 of the most iconic, unexpected, and unforgettable CDG collaborations, from Peggy Moffitt to The Simpsons‘ Matt Groening.
